The Ellensburg Blue Agate is extremely hard and durable. The Ellensburg Blue is more than a 7 on the hardness scale, making it ideal for jewelry. It is as hard as steel and is valued for its rarity, presence of beauty, and liveliness. This is determined and modified by color and either clarity or massing of color. The Blue was popularized by Alfred Kunz of Tiffany Jewelers in the 1920s and has enjoyed a resurgence since the early 1970s, which is when the Art of Jewelry first set up shop.
We have the most beautiful collection of Ellensburg Blues Agates in the world. All jewelry made by us comes with a certificate of authenticity upon request.
Stone Cutting
Our collection of Ellensburg Blue Agates are sourced from years of buying and trading with local rock hunters. We have decades of experience working with Ellensburg Blues and are certain in the authenticity of each Ellensburg Blue Agate we sell.
Many pieces of jewelry in our collection feature irregular stone shapes in addition to classic cabochon cuts. The best part of the Ellensburg Blue is found in the center of the rough agate, and the outer parts of the agate need to be cut away before revealing the impressive center. We often cut unique stone shapes to preserve as much of the Ellensburg Blue as possible. This also adds a wonderful organic element to our jewelry and makes each piece truly one of a kind.
Working with this unique and rare stone compels us to be creative in our setting designs with a focus on durable and long-lasting pieces. Each setting is hand-carved to fit the stone. No two Ellensburg Blue stone are alike, and the same can be said for our jewelry.
Jewelry Design
All jewelry pieces are carved by hand through the lost-wax method and are not in mass production. From cutting the stone to the final polish - we do it all. Our pieces are handcrafted and slight variances are to be expected.
Our jewelry designs are influenced by nature and the vibrant Pacific Northwest environment. There is no better style to accent the Ellensburg Blue agate than designs inspired by the environment it's found in.
Our classic, hand-carved Sagebrush design is inspired by the plant of the same name found in our valley. Drawing inspiration from nature, our work often uses organic elements such as branches, leaves, feathers, and waves to highlight each unique Ellensburg Blue.
Another favorite style element is influenced by the Scandinavian aesthetic of our founders heritage. We frame the Ellensburg Blue with a minimalist approach. Featuring clean lines and modern simplicity, these designs focus on the beauty of each Ellensburg Blue stone and are perfect for every day wear.
